Russell County Causeway
The Cumberland River bridge has 2 piers that are being built in the flow channel of the river. Therefore, we need a way to get equipment, materials, and manpower out in the river to the locations where the piers will be constructed. The pictures show just the first of three phases of causeway construction. A second causeway will be constructed on the other side of the river for a different pier once the construction of the first pier is completed.
The elevation of the water traveling through the river is mostly dependent on how much water is being released from the Wolf Creek Dam, which is about 3 miles upstream from the bridge site. We evaluated historical flow data from the dam and consulted and engineer who ultimately designed the causeway and decided on the size of pipe that would be required. The top of causeway elevation and the pipe size were determined such that we would be able to work 90% of working days and be flooded out 10% of working days. We used three 6′ diameter pipes and three 8′ diameter pipes that were all 80′ long.
The vertical pipes being installed are 12β in diameter and will act as temporary cofferdams for the drilled shaft and pier column construction. To place the vertical pipe, crews utilized a robotic total station and GPS enabled excavator to ensure it was installed in the correct location.
Washington County KY Deck Pour
Big news coming out of Washington County: We have just achieved what some may consider the biggest milestone in the bridge building industry, completing our bridge deck pour! Early in October, we tasked our crew with the goal of having the bridge deck completed and poured before January 1st, 2025. Our men worked tirelessly, and often in poor weather conditions, to meet this goal. We are grateful for the hard work and dedication of our crews as well as the meticulous execution of our gameplan by our management team.
