NOVEMBER 2024
We just finished the last deck pour phase at Rock Lick Creek! Check out this video showing how we got there! As always, a huge shoutout to Concrete Pump Partners for their quality service with the pump trucks!
OCTOBER 2024
Rock Lick Beam Setting – The Rock Lick Creek Bridge is back underway! Crews recently set the last span of beams and are now working to complete phase 2 of the bridge deck. Here at Haydon Bridge Company, we always strive to deliver a quality product, on time. Shortly, we will have completed our 3rd bridge on this project in just under 2 years!
AUGUST 2024
Cumberland River Column Construction – Pier column construction has begun at the Cumberland River bridge site! These columns are classified as Structural Mass Concrete due to their size, which means they have strict temperature control guidelines. When concrete goes through the curing process, it generates heat, and pours that are of certain dimensions can be susceptible to high peak temperatures and temperature gradients. If the core temperatures or the temperature gradients between the core and the edges are too high, it can cause thermal cracking. On these pours, we monitor core and edge temperatures and adjust thermal control procedures accordingly.
JULY 2024
Rock Lick Deck Pour – Crews were hard at work pouring the bridge deck for the Rock Lick Creek bridge in Russell County. This pour was completed shortly after midnight so crews were able to beat the heat and able to keep concrete temperatures within specification. We would like to thank our crews for their hard work and dedication to get this completed, and also a shout out to Concrete Pump Partners who is always a pleasure to work with.
JULY 2024
Cumberland River – As you can see from the video the abutment is complete on the West side of the river and the Hayes Drilling crew has made it to the East side of the Cumberland River on our Russell County project. Soon to follow will be column & pier cap construction!!
JUNE 2024
Drilled Shafts for the US127 Bridge over Cumberland River – Crews are beginning drilled shaft construction for the US127 Bridge over the Cumberland River. Drilled shafts are high-capacity deep foundation systems, also known as caissons. These drilled shafts are 8 FT in diameter and extend about 40 FT into the ground. Once the foundations are built, round pier columns will be poured on top of the shafts. Similar structures will be built on the other side of the river, as well as in the river itself. A huge thanks to Hayes Drilling, who are always a pleasure to work with!

Rock Lick Update – What are you seeing in these pictures? Is it a bridge to nowhere? Fortunately, this is not a bridge to nowhere; rather, we are constructing the bridge from one embankment while the grade contractor (Bizzack Construction) prepares the opposite embankment. Once the second embankment is complete, we will build a second abutment and set the last span of beams. Since the bridge is so long, the bridge deck is poured in 2 phases, and we can construct the formwork and pour the first phase before the last span of beams are set.
MAY 2024
Rock Lick Creek Beam Setting – Cranes are prepped and ready to go for a beam setting on the Rock Lick Creek bridge in Russell County. As you can see there is a Manitowoc 2250 & Manitowoc 777 awaiting the arrival of the precast concrete girders to be set on top of the pier caps. There is a great deal of pre lift planning and work needed to get to this point, and we would like to thank the Russell County crews for all of their hard work while doing it both productively and safely!!
APRIL 2024
Russell County Slip form – Russell County crews were hard at work slip forming the barrier wall for the bridge over B Mann Road on our project in Russell County. We would like to thank them for their hard work and excellent production by being able to complete one side in a day over 660 linear feet!!
MARCH 2024
B Mann Deck Pour 1, B Mann Deck Pour 2, B Mann Deck Pour 3 – Crews have been working hard to pour the bridge deck at the B Mann Road Site! Check out some sights from the 1st phase of the deck pour, which included about ½ of the total bridge deck. The second half was poured just a week later! Once again, we want to give a huge thanks to Concrete Pump Partners for helping everything run smoothly. We also want to give a shoutout to Hilti for their Backpack Concrete Vibrators, which give us a more efficient and ergonomic solution to vibrating concrete!
FEBRUARY 2024
Russell County Update – Update on the US 127 Project in Russell County: The substructure for the Rock Lick Creek Bridge is progressing quickly and we will soon be preparing to set the beams for this bridge. We have been working on access at the Cumberland River Bridge Site, and will soon begin construction on the drilled shafts for the piers on this bridge.
JANUARY 2024
Swan Pond Road Slip Forming – We are excited to be kicking off the new US-127 construction project in Russell County, KY! This project will consist of four bridges, averaging 712 FT in length and reaching heights of nearly 100 FT!
DECEMBER 2023
Span 1 Beam Erection – Take a look at our crew in Russell County erecting a span of beams on our B Mann Road Bridge. Here we are utilizing two 777 Crawler Cranes from Manitowoc Cranes. Our operators have to exhibit excellent teamwork to efficiently and safely place these beams in a two-crane pick.
NOVEMBER 2023
Russell County Update – It has been a very productive year on our project in Russell County!! As you can see from the video, we have poured the bridge deck on the Bridge over Swan Pond Road, set beams at the Bridge over B Mann Road, and have started excavation and substructure construction on the Bridge over Rock Lick Creek. We would like to give a big shout out to our crews for all of their hard work they have put it on this project.
OCTOBER 2023
Swan Pond Road Deck Pour – Check out some sights (video above) from our recent deck pour at the Swan Pond Road Bridge! This deck took around 830 Cubic Yards of concrete and was poured in two phases. We poured these starting at 3 AM to avoid traffic and hotter daytime temperatures! Huge thanks to Concrete Pump Partners and IMI for helping make everything run smoothly!
SEPTEMBER 2023
Our project on US 127 in Russell County is progressing nicely! Crews are preparing for the first deck pour at Swan Pond Road and continue to move forward with substructure construction at the B Mann Road Bridge!
JULY 2023
Here is a video of beam placement on our Swan Pond Road bridge in Russell County. These beams were 115 ft. long and weighed 114,000 LB. This process requires excellent communication between the crews on each pier cap and the crane operators. Our team knocked it out of the park!
JUNE 2023
Check out our crew in Russell County driving steel piling for our Swan Pond Road Bridge! On average, the piling in this video was driven 40+ feet into the ground until the pointed tip reached compacted bedrock and could not be driven any further.
APRIL 2023
Here is a short video of one of our operators breaking rock using a hydraulic hoe ram attachment on one of our excavators. The spread footers for the bridge piers at our Russell County Project must be cast into solid rock, making this process necessary.
APRIL 2023
We are preparing to open our second bridge site in Russell County for the new US 127 construction! Before we can mobilize equipment like our crawler cranes, a significant amount of site work must be done. Take a look at a small portion of that in the video below!
MARCH 2023
Timelapse of a pier footer excavation at our Swan Pond Road Bridge for KY-127 in Russell County. Our operators did a great job working in tight quarters as this excavation took place at the top of a steep 30 ft bluff! HBC Owner and President, Kevin Wolfe, got involved by operating the dozer!
FEBRUARY 2023
A Bird’s Eye view of two HBC Team members installing jump platform brackets on a bridge pier. These platforms provide our crews with a safe work area as they continue pier construction. We appreciate our Team members focus on safety as they continue to progress these piers to height of over 100’.
