Project Overview & Updates
Back in February, we began construction on our project in Hopkins county, which consists of three bridges over the Clearwater creek backflow. The process began by installing crossings at the bridge sites and performing the demolition of the existing bridges. Once the existing bridges were removed, we began working to build and de-water cofferdams to begin pier and end bent construction. We recently poured the deck on the first bridge and have since completed the structure and started on the second bridge, where we are preparing to finish the substructure and begin setting beams. After beams are set on the second bridge, we will begin construction of the third bridge while concurrently bringing the second bridge to completion.

Hopkins Beam Setting – The Hopkins County crew did an excellent job with this span 2 beam setting on KY 502. Always helps to have a good critical lift plan in place to assure all hoisting, rigging, & crane radius are within safety specification. Plan your work & work your plan!!

Hopkins Cofferdam – Do you remember the post from last month regarding the construction of sheet pile cofferdams? Well, this is what the cofferdam looks like when fully constructed and de-watered. Once the structure within this cofferdam is completed, we will backfill and re-flood the inside of the cofferdam. This will then allow the cofferdam to be de-constructed by removing the sheet piles.

Hopkins County Sheet Piling Cofferdam 1, 2, 3, & 4 –
Narrative: In areas with a significant amount of water, we must dewater the space around the structure before construction can begin. One such way to do that is by building a cofferdam from sheet piling, which seals the area from the outside water, allowing the water inside the cofferdam to be pumped out.
Here at Haydon Bridge Company, we have significant experience in constructing sheet piling cofferdams. Check out our crew in Hopkins county using a vibratory hammer to drive sheet piling for a cofferdam.

Hopkins Co. Before Construction –
Narrative: Narrative: Haydon Bridge Company was recently awarded a project in Hopkins Co. The project consists of three bridge replacements and the adjacent roadwork. In this short clip you can see the project site as-is before we have boots on the ground. We look forward to working with the team to have another successful project and a great start to a new year! More posts to come!

A highway bridge is built for the passage of highway vehicles and pedestrians. Highway bridges are designed for heavy rolling loads of up to 0.8 meganewtons (80,000 tons of force), crowds of people, and other forces. Girders are most often used in building steel highway bridges.
