Project Overview & Updates
Haydon Bridge started working on the widening of the Long Lick Bridge on Ky 555 in Washington County in early July. The first step of construction for this structure was the 72” diameter drilled shafts along with the crosshole sonic logging testing of these shafts once completed to test the integrity of the shafts before moving on with column construction.
See below progress photos of the CSL test and pouring of one of the drilled shaft foundations.

Washington County Update –The next phase of our bridge widening project on KY 555 is to set the girders and pour the new deck, but before we do that, we must remove the existing concrete barrier wall. This involves a series of longitudinal and vertical saw cuts before we begin packing the barrier wall off the bridge. A big thanks to our friends over at Concrete Coring Company for coming in and knocking this phase of the project out!

Washington County Update – Since our last update on our bridge expansion on KY 555, we have been given the “All Clear” on our CSL testing report and have followed right in to column construction. To construct our columns, we use an efficient form system design by EFCO. We utilize a series of pipe braces to stabilize the column form and then drop our rebar cage into place. Once this is done, we drop in a hopper & chutes to help control the flow of concrete. We then use our crane combined with a concrete bucket to transport the concrete from the truck to the hopper chute and into the column form.

Washington Co – Long Lick Creek Bridge Expansion – Drilled Shaft Construction – If you have traversed KY 555 lately, you would have noticed the influx in highway construction this summer as a means to better improve the flow of traffic in the area. As part of this project, Haydon Bridge Company is beginning to widen the bridge that crosses Long Lick Creek. We have just installed our two drilled shaft foundations for the new piers and completed Cross-Hole Sonic Logging Testing. This is done to ensure that the pier foundations that support the bridge have cured correctly without cracking and meet the appropriate specifications. We will soon be beginning column construction and look forward to completing another great project right here in our community!
